“For the past two weeks the world has heard a truly momentous grassroots call for democracy from the streets and squares of Egypt. Today, with the resignation of President Mubarak, the voices of the people of Egypt were finally heeded.
“As an important regional partner for the United States, it is vital that we work with the people of Egypt to aid them in their transition to democracy and to work with them to continue to uphold the important commitments that Egypt has to regional peace and security. Just as a newly democratic Egypt should uphold the freedoms and human rights of its own people, we also expect that it continue to be a partner for peace with Israel. It is my sincere hope that the future of the relationship between Egypt and Israel only grows stronger with democratic partners on both sides of their border."
