DNC Chair At Florida Capitol to Oppose Guns on Campus Bill

Tallahassee, Fla. (AP) -- Democratic National Committee Chairwoman and Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz is hoping to convince Florida lawmakers to oppose a bill that would allow concealed weapons permit holders to bring guns on state university and college campuses.

Wasserman Schultz was at the Florida Capitol on Thursday joining Democratic lawmakers and others at a news conference held to oppose the bill.

She said most Floridians don't think the state "should be armed to teeth." Wasserman Schultz used to serve in the Florida Senate and now represents parts of Broward and Miami-Dade counties in Washington.

Wasserman Schultz called the idea of allowing guns on campus troubling and disturbing.

A House bill is ready for consideration by the full chamber, but a Senate bill is stalled in committee. A similar bill died last year.
