Wasserman Schultz on Court Ruling Against Trump Border Wall

This latest ruling obviously benefits our servicemembers and their families most of all, but it is also a victory for any American who values our national security and the Constitution over the President’s nativist boondoggle.
Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-23) issued this statement after a permanent nationwide injunction was issued by the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas against using repurposed Military Construction funding for proposed border wall projects. The Court ruled that the Trump Administration lacks the authority to conjure a false national emergency in order to steal Congressionally-authorized funds for a purpose not intended by Congress. Wasserman Schultz chairs the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Subcommittee, which directs these funds:

“Yet another federal court has now agreed that this Administration exceeded its Constitutional authority by recklessly stealing military funds for a wasteful border wall project. This latest ruling obviously benefits our servicemembers and their families most of all, but it is also a victory for any American who values our national security and the Constitution over the President’s nativist boondoggle. The vital infrastructure projects he’s trying to steal money from – which fill troop needs ranging from fire houses and flight simulation facilities, to schools, roads and clinics – were requested by our military leaders, approved by a bipartisan vote of Congress and signed into law. I’m encouraged the courts recognize and respect that. I just wish this Administration would do the same.”
