The War on Zika

By Dan Sweeney

Going viral: Congress is set to vote on three funding packages to combat Zika today. There's what President Barack Obama and many other Democrats support, which would send $1.9 billion to Florida to fight the virus. There's what House Republicans want, which would offset $622 million in funding with cuts elsewhere, and there's a compromise plan that would send $1.1 billion to Florida. The compromise appears to have the most congressional support.

U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Weston, supports the $1.9 billion in funding as do Gov. Rick Scott and Sen. Marco Rubio. The Wass spoke out during an appearance in the backyard of Hollywood MayorPeter Bober. Mosquito experts combed through his yard, pointing out problem areas. Some of what they found could prove useful in your own backyard fight against mosquitos.
