Wasserman Schultz on Lowey Not Seeking Reelection

“Congresswoman Nita M. Lowey is a key mentor and dear friend of mine who devoted herself to public service with a rare, dignified grace."
Today, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-23) released the following statement in response to Congresswoman Nita Lowey (NY-17) announcing she will not seek reelection in 2020:

“Congresswoman Nita M. Lowey is a key mentor and dear friend of mine who devoted herself to public service with a rare, dignified grace. She works as hard as any Member I know, whether it is serving her constituents or securing funding to help all Americans get ahead. When she steps away, the House will lose a tireless advocate for women’s health, working families, and a strong Israel-U.S. relationship. Her shoes will be impossible to fill but she has cast a long shadow over Congress, as so many Members seek to emulate the legacy of dedication, wisdom and accomplishments of this strong, smart, barrier-breaking woman – the first to ever chair the House Committee on Appropriations. I will deeply miss my mentor and friend.”
