National Women’s Suffrage Month Statement

In these unprecedented times, we must vigilantly guard the vote and honor those women on whose shoulders we stand in this quest to build a more perfect union.

Today begins National Women’s Suffrage Month to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 19th  Amendment and women’s right to vote in the United States. Without it, women had little or no say over their lives and the defining questions that shape this nation.

As we grapple with a pandemic, a ‘she-cession’ and cries for racial justice and equality, we must credit those ‘she-roes’ who liberated our voice through the power of the vote. We also re-commit to the fight against the disenfranchisement of people of color across this country.

In these unprecedented times, we must vigilantly guard the vote and honor those women on whose shoulders we stand in this quest to build a more perfect union.
