Florida’s entire Democratic congressional delegation sent a letter to University of Florida President Kent Fuchs condemning the school’s attempt to block three professors from testifying in a state voting rights lawsuit and the federal lawmakers requested that school administrators reverse any attempts to stifle the instructors’ academic freedoms and free speech rights. If allowed to stand, the restraint of these professors’ speech will undermine every UF claim to honor academic independence and free speech. It will damage UF’s ability to recruit and retain top faculty and stifle fundraising. UF will stand out in anti-academic exile, rather than an exemplar of higher learning. Read more »
