“My heart is full of hope for the relief that is about to arrive for hundreds of Israeli family members and the people of Israel, who have waited 15 months for this day. I am deeply grateful to President Biden and his administration for their tireless work to achieve an agreement to secure the release of the remaining hostages in Gaza after 467 days of unimaginable hardship. This deal is a defining moment for President Biden's legacy and history will remember his commitment to securing our ally Israel from Iran and its terrorist proxies, returning the hostages, and seeking a just and lasting peace for Israelis, Palestinians and their neighbors.

“President Biden has a strong record of foreign policy accomplishments that have made our country and world safer. A crucial component of his legacy will be his efforts to free political prisoners, wrongfully detained Americans, and hostages abroad. I appreciate the Administration's consistent efforts to free more than 500 political prisoners wrongfully jailed and tortured by the Cuban Communist regime due to the July 11, 2021 pro-democracy protests and I am relieved that these individuals will be finally released.

Wasserman Schultz, Salazar Re-Introduce Bipartisan REVOCAR Act to Defund Repressive Maduro Regime

“While the opposition is under siege and Maduro plans to inaugurate himself tomorrow – despite a clear election loss – American efforts to support democracy and punish repression have been far too slow. The United States must always support peaceful, pro-democracy movements and shun autocrats no matter who's in the White House,” said Wasserman Schultz. “Rescinding these special licenses, which exclusively serve to subsidize the regime's crony corruption, violent repression, and flagrant human rights abuses, are critical to meaningfully rejecting Maduro's election theft. We cannot afford to cave to fossil fuel companies’ investors at the expense of democracy, dignity and justice.”

Senate Sends President Bill to Study Transfer of Weitzman Museum of American Jewish History Transfer to the Smithsonian

“Educating all Americans, from all over the country, about the amazing contributions Jewish Americans made to our nation, not only raises awareness but helps dispel harmful prejudices about our community,” said Wasserman Schultz. “Welcoming the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History into the larger Smithsonian family would bring that vision closer to reality. Education about the Jewish American community is a critical tool in the fight against hate, and there is no better place for that learning than the Weitzman. I am proud to champion this legislation and am thrilled to see it reach the President’s desk.”

Wasserman Schultz, DeGette Lead Congressional Call for FDA to Wrap Up E-Cigarette Marketing Review, Take Action on Thousands of Illegal E-Cigarette Products on Shelves

| Posted in Press Releases

“Flavored e-cigarettes put a new generation of kids at risk of nicotine addiction and the serious health harms that result from tobacco use. When children’s health is at stake, we cannot tolerate any delay. Unfortunately, the most popular tobacco products with kids have been on the market for several years, with observable negative consequences for public health, and I am very disappointed that the FDA still has not finalized reviewing pending applications per the court-ordered deadline, nor has it removed all these illegal products from the shelves,” said Wasserman Schultz. “Leaving flavored e-cigarette products widely available without understanding the full impact they have on attracting youth and other non-tobacco users is dangerous and the FDA must swiftly finalize this review process and use all its enforcement tools available to make sure that kids are protected against illegal, kid-friendly products.”
